John McCain is 72 and in reletavily good health from what can be discerned. His father died at the age of 70 but his mother is alive and still has her mind at the ripe old age of 96.

It is a consideration one must take when casting a ballot for him.

I'm not a christian in the sense that I go to church and follow a religious doctrine. My beliefs are a little different then that and can't be summed up quite so easily. How do you know that they are all "Christians"? Because they say so? How can you be sure about those four, but not the other 225,000,000?

Even the most casual of observers has likely heard that at some point and if one truly wanted to find out I’m sure they could Google the candidate’s religious affiliation and assure themselves that what I’ve stated is true.

I didn't find Joe's on his campaign page but he did say he was a Roman Catholic on MTP and the last time I checked, RC's are considered christians. Should I not believe Joe either Frank?

Even if McCain and his campaign are confused, both episcopalian and baptist are considered christian. Should I not beleive him either.

ABC News' Bret Hovell Reports: Sen. John McCain's campaign staff identified him as "Episcopalian" in a questionnaire prepared for ABC News' August 5 debate, notwithstanding the presidential candidate's claim that he has long identified himself as a Baptist.

Well, our friend Keli here obviously doesn't believe it when Obama says he is a Christian. He has expended oodles of cyber electrons here trying to convince us that Obama is a Muslim. Can we dispute Keli's keen sense of theological analysis?

Why should anyone believe anyone who says that he or she is a "Christian"? It is simply the politically correct thing to say- whether for a presidential candidate, or for the other 225,000,000.

It is like saying "I am honest", or "I am not crook". It is self-serving pap that means nothing in the larger scheme of human relations and zillions of such religious proclamations.

My point is that asserting that someone or 225,000,000 someones is or are "Christian" is a meaningless assertion.

There are as many different kinds of "Christians" as there are kinds of "Democrats" or "Republicans" or "Muslims", or skeptics, or heretics. Everyone is a skeptic of something, and everyone is a heretic to something. Yet we almost never refer to John or Mary Q. Politician as "Skeptic".

Most of us- other than Keli- allow their assertions of being "Christian" to go unchallenged. Keli dares to challenge, because Keli knows that anyone's prolaimed "Christianity" is challengable. Keli knows that better than almost anyone else- because he recognizes "Christianity" as the political charade it almost always is.

It is not meaningless to those make the claim, as both of our Presidential candidates and their respective VP’s are claiming, or to their followers.

And we both know our friend Terry H. is not challenging the good Senator’s religious affiliation because he actually believes Barry's a Muslim. We both know Terry’s making that accusation based upon political ramifications, not religious ones.

There are political consequences of the Christian faith, to be sure, particularly when it comes to the slaughter of the unborn. Having said that, a Christian admits that we are such because we are directed to by the Bible to do so, and not because it makes us look cool or more likely to get elected.

A pro-life Muslim would get more votes from the Christian right than a prochoice Baptist.

We can't be sure they aren't "posturing to generate political faith" any more then you can be sure they are. Christians give them the benefit of the doubt. Others don't. You question faith as a means to attack consertative and liberals.

I question religious faith as a means to anything I think of as being ethical or moral. You can call that an agenda or you can call it whatever.

I'll bet our resident preacher doesn't consider them [Roman Catholocs] true christians.
