This is really pissing off the liberal left who view this as Obama going back on his word to immediately get out of Iraq.
It is interesting to note that Democrats have only held the Secretary of Defense position for four years since 1980 and only 8 in the past 40 years.

Defense Secretary Robert Gates has agreed to stay on under President-elect Barack Obama, according to officials in both parties. Obama plans to announce a national-security team early next week that includes Gates at the Pentagon and Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) as secretary of state, officials said.
Retired Marine Gen. James Jones, former Marine commandant and commander of U.S. and NATO forces in Europe, will be named national security adviser, the officials said.

Well I have to agree with that 100%.
The so-called National Security Team of Jones, Gates, and Clinton if you looked at it objectively looks a lot more like a republican administration than Democrat.
But if you can figure out how to do a search on here I predicted way back when that Obama would renege on Iraq.
Kucinich, Edwards, and Ron Paul were the only ones serious about getting out of Iraq.

The question was ask yesterday morning on one of the news shows that given Obama has chosen a Republican and Bill Clinton turned to a Republican, does this give the impression democrats can not govern the military?

I mean they will avoid any confrontation with the military.
